Disney’s version of the story of Rapunzel is a beautifully made film, which has been given a nice modern A .
A queen is pregnant, but falls terribly ill. The only thing that can save her and her child is a flower that came into existence when a drop from the sun fell to earth. The King’s men find the flower and save the day, and the child is born with some remarkable abilities. It is in fact her hair that is the source of most of her abilities, and if it is cut off, her abilities will disappear.
However, Gothel, the witch, knows about the power of both the flower and the girl’s abilities, and kidnaps the child – who bears the name Rapunzel. Gothel hides Rapunzel in a closed tower. (1) .
One day, Rapunzel’s life B an unexpected twist. She meets the villain Flynn Rider, and, despite the fact that Gothel repeatedly has told her that all human beings are evil, and that evil always conquers good, Rapunzel chooses to trust this charming thief in order to get out of the tower. (2) .
Her mother’s love is perhaps not ideal, in fact, it is completely selfish, still; it is the only love Rapunzel knows. (3) . Her character is that of a genuine fairy tale princess; humble, kind, clever – someone who C everybody’s hearts. (4) .
This is a genuine fairy tale, and, as in other films based on fairy tales, there are some D based elements. A Barbie doll seems quite faded compared to Rapunzel, who has a narrow waist and large eyes. However, this is not emphasized in any way. A weak aspect of the story is the development of Flynn, who becomes stronger in character and develops into a real prince, but without dealing properly with his past.
On the other hand, some of the lesser significant characters are great. Maximus, the horse, doesn’t say a word, but still manages to appear as a complex and hilarious character. (5) . It is the wonderful mix of sorrow, quiet happiness, kindness and a E load of humour that makes “Tangled” a truly great film.
