“Hushpuppy” is a remarkable film that comes A recommended for everyone from 12 years of age. You can’t describe it without losing the richness of a magic story that B us through its use of fables, harsh realism and human passion and emotion.
Six year old Hushpuppy is no ordinary girl. (1) . The poor inhabitants call the island “The Bathtub”, and everybody who lives here feels a deep connection to their home, and, at the same time, an equal resentment to the society on the mainland.
After a storm, the entire island is flooded, and those who don’t escape are left with shattered homes and next to no food. (2) .
This description does not C justice to the film. Hushpuppy uses elements from fables and fairy tales to explain the world around her. (3) . She understands that her mother left and what is happening to her father, but she uses fairy tales to explain it. Essentially, the film is about Hushpuppy’s development from being a child who is dependent on others, to becoming an individual who D control, leaves the fears of childhood behind and learns how to survive on her own.
(4) . At the same time, her fear of prehistoric oxen and the destruction of the universe open a window into the mind of a child, as well as being important elements that describe her development. The bond between Hushpuppy and her father is fascinating, somewhat scary, and, not least, E moving.
(5) . It evokes compassion and makes us realise how rich life can be, even in the harshest of conditions.
